Using Internet data card like Tata photon on Ubuntu 20Jul, 2011

If you are having problems with using any kind of INTERNET data card like Tata photon or else, then please follow as described below:

Please install usb-modeswitch on your systems regarding usage of Tata photon when required.

Please follow the steps for installation:

1. Open System->Administration->Synaptic Package manager.
2. Search for usb-modeswitch and install it.
3.Now open Applications->Accessories->Terminal. Type sudo gedit /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/12d1:1446
– In the line TargetProductList, add 140b. Save and Close.

Hope this will help you resolving the problem.

  1. Above procedure doesn’t work for all systems , Well it didn’t worked for me atleast 😉
    “sudo gedit /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/12d1:1446”

    In this command Device’s Product ID can be changed depending upon your setup. So If above method doesn’t work then try listing the Products on USB buses by running command “lsusb” after attaching your Photon device to system. It will list the different devices attached to USB.
    Search for your Huawei Photon device and check the Product ID. Use that ID instead of 12d1:1446 . In my case it is 12d1:1505. After that try running following command. It will start the network interface for the Photon.

    cd /etc/usb_modeswitch.d
    sudo usb_modeswitch -I -W -c 12d1:1505

    You might have to run these commands every time after you connect Photon. So create shell script with these commands and run.
